The Maw Box by Gary Hume for Giobagnara Art Edition brings an image developed from his 2013 painting into an intimate, everyday format. Pale and dark forms occupy the lid, rendered in nappa leather inlaid flush into aluminium. The smooth leather and exposed metal give the composition a finely controlled material character.

Opening the box reveals yellow leather within, adding an unexpected brightness beneath the restrained exterior. Brushed brass details complete the construction. The smallest of Hume’s three boxes, Maw provides a considered setting for jewellery or personal keepsakes while remaining an artwork to be enjoyed at close quarters.
