Editor's notes

The Archipelago 4 Tray by Gary Hume for Giobagnara Art Edition translates imagery from his 2020 painting into a shallow aluminium form. Rounded shapes in taupe and brown suede are inlaid flush into the metal, creating a finely resolved composition in which the exposed aluminium contributes light and definition.

The smallest of Hume’s three trays, it has an intimate scale suited to a side table or shelf. Its image can be enjoyed horizontally or displayed upright on the coordinating aluminium stand, sold separately. This change of position gives the work a different relationship with the surrounding space. Made in Italy in a numbered and signed edition of 12.
