Editor's notes

Turquoise and orange-red give the American Tan VII Vase by Gary Hume for Giobagnara Art Edition a vivid, immediate presence. Developed from Hume’s painting of 2006–07, the composition is realised in suede inlaid flush into aluminium. The exposed metal participates in the image, its changing reflections set against the depth of the leather.

The tall cylindrical form carries the pattern beyond a single viewpoint, inviting the piece to be seen in the round. Glass inside allows it to hold fresh flowers, although its strong colour relationships are equally compelling on their own. Made in Italy in a numbered and signed edition of 12.
